There’s a tension that exists in ministry between the urgent and the important and between working in the church and working on the church. It shows up most in our meetings. We spend a lot of time on the urgent, and then don’t spend enough time on what’s important for the long term to accomplish our purpose and mission.
Create a simple framework for meetings, like the one we walked through in today’s session. It’s important to determine when and how to get your team together to work through big picture items. This is strategy. This is leadership.
Our suggestion is to have three meetings where your team reviews what’s important in the present and plans big picture for the future: Annual Retreat, Quarterly Meeting, and Monthly Meeting.
