FAQ

  • If you’re struggling to find your church’s EIN number, here are a couple of ways to find it:
  • Search on this website: https://apps.irs.gov/app/eos/
  • Take a look at your giving paperwork. When you send congregation members their year-end giving information, your EIN number will be on that document to prove your nonprofit status
    • IF you have your own 501c3:
      • A 501(c)(3) determination letter received from the IRS by mail. If you only have the PDF version that is downloadable online, our legal team recommends that you print out the letter (if you don’t already have a paper copy), fold it up and crease it like it had been mailed, then unfold it and take a photo of it and send the photo to Google’s partner company. I know that sounds funny but it seems to work best.Â
    • The paperwork will look similar to this example paperwork.
    • IF you are covered by an umbrella denominational ruling:
      • Paperwork showing that your denomination is a 501c3 (like the example paperwork above)
      • Paperwork showing that your EIN number is part of the denomination (A group exemption letter. This is a letter from an officer confirming your place of worship as a subordinate under the group ruling of the national parent denomination, and must be composed on the letterhead of your national parent denomination.)
    • If you are submitting multiple pieces of paperwork, use this tool to combine them into one document.
      • Be sure that this paperwork contains both YOUR EIN number and the denomination’s 501c3 status, stating that your EIN is covered by their status
    • Use your church’s legal name when filling out this form. When we build Google Ads for your church, we can use whatever name your church uses in marketing in branding. But for this form, use your legal church name!
    • Google (and their partner company Percent) are going to use your EIN and church name to verify your nonprofit status with the IRS. If that EIN and church name don’t match, it’s going to slow the process down. So make sure you submit this form with the EIN, name, and address that the IRS has on file for your church!
    • To find out if you already have a Google for Nonprofits account, log into google.com/nonprofits with every email address you can think of (have your pastor, leaders, and church admin log in). If you have an account, proceed to step 3 in this course. If you aren’t sure if you have an account, just go ahead and apply!
    • Check out this article for details on Google’s terms and conditions.
